The importance of healthy eating

Healthy nutrition

Healthy nutrition is one of the most powerful tools I have in my 'Doctor's Bag'.

I have advocated the power of food and used it successfully with many patients who suffer from Type 2 Diabetes, Obesity, High Blood Pressure and joint pain. I follow and advocate a mostly Plant Based diet which is full of fresh fruits, vegetables, wholegrains, fibre and abundant minerals and powerful antioxidants. I have seen patients reverse their diabetes (type 2), lower the blood pressure and lose enormous amounts of weight by simply changing what they eat, NOT how much they eat. When you consume a plant based diet, you are provided with an abundance of delicious foods and never restricted by amount. Too many weightloss programs advocate restriction which only drives hunger (and failure) even more.

The Standard American Diets (SAD) that predominate these days are heavily processed, full of sugar, oil and salt; and devoid of fibre. They are also very high in Saturated Fat. These components only seek to cause inflammation to the body and drive obesity, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and illness. This drives the creation of vascular disease, leading to heart attacks, kidney failure and strokes. Sadly we have seen the World Health Organisation in recent years, associated the intake of processed meat with bowel cancer.

A Plant Based Diet may be something you wish to consider introducing even just a few days a week. You will be amazed at the way it fills you up, resolves pain and helps you feel more energetic during the day, not to mention sleeping better at night.
